Sonus Noctis
‘Sonus Noctis’ is comprised of four tracks: the miniature ‘Valse’ composed in waltz time; ‘Berceuse’, which has a suspenseful character, inspired by the slow tempo of Chopin’s B minor Sonata; the melancholic ‘Nocturne III’, which references Chopin’s Nocturne, Op. 15 No. 3 and the mysterious and enigmatic ‘Nocturne IV’, influenced by Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 27 No. 1.
With ‘Sonus Noctis’, Belli deftly weaves her own original material with variations on well-loved music, showcasing her own inner calm and tranquillity and her musical references to nature and resulting in intimate, tranquil music for our time. Belli notes of ‘Sonus Noctis’: “I tried to put into a sound all of the moments that accompany the transition from day to night and night to dawn – the mysterious night that accompanies our dreams. The night may bring fears but it is also a welcome balm and offers deep refreshment for the mind and soul”.
